Assassin’s Creed 3 is the fifth instalment of the popular series by developers Ubisoft, and they claim it will be bigger than its predecessors.
The game centres on Connor Kenway, a half-Native American, half-English assassin and ancestor of Desmond Miles. Connor’s story takes place in the 18th century during the American Revolution. If, like us, you felt a smattering of disappointment with the familiarity of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, by what we’ve seen so far, Assassins’s Creed 3 threatens to dispel any worries of the game being too ‘samey’.
Graphics & Gameplay
Ubisoft have boasted of a number of modifications to the combat system, like dual-wield weapons, the ability to assassinate while running and human shields. As for movement, Connor looks to move differently form previous AC heroes, which should make the hero feel new and not some re-vamp of Altair or Ezio.
The graphics are naturally stunning, everything you’ve come to expect from an Assassin’s Creed title. There is the added feature of environmental changes affecting gameplay, i.e adverse weather conditions like knee-deep snow or thick fog which can help and hinder alike. Connor is said to be spending his time between Boston and New York, which will present wider streets than the tight medieval cities of Assassin’s Creed 1 and 2, which should make for more fluid and flowing chases.
Above all, Assassin’s Creed 3 looks to be the sequel I hoped it would be with a new hero, new environments to explore and exploit and just the right amount of tweaks to make the game a little fresher than previous instalments of the series. Release date is set for Oct 30th (U.S) and Oct 31st (Europe).
